John Coull Hut

The John Coull Hut is administered by the Department of Conservation. Hut fees are paid in advance. The hut has long shelf bunks with large mattresses on each shelf, running water and gas cooking and heating. Candles or lanterns are required for light.

Long drop facilities are provided down a short track - well worth a visit - I have rarely seen such an impressive line up of outhouses!

Like all huts on the river it is a stiff walk up to the hut from the river itself. The river rises a long way in severe storms - such as Hurricane Bola. Once up there though it is very nice to spread out and relax after the efforts of canoeing.
